In preparation for the federal government’s plan to legalize cannabis by July 2018, the Ministry of Finance and LCBO have identified several Ontario municipalities for cannabis stores for July.
The LCBO is now identifying specific sites for retail locations, consistent with the guidelines and other considerations discussed in engagement meetings with the identified municipalities. The guidelines address the key objectives in the province’s proposed framework of protecting youth, providing access within communities, and addressing the illegal market.
Public comments will help the LCBO understand any concerns or issues about a cannabis retail storefront in a community. When specific store sites are identified a public notice will be posted online on this website and, when possible, at the physical location. The public can submit comments on the specific store site here. If a specific site or sites has not yet been identified in a municipality, the public can still provide general comments related to a cannabis store in that community.
The feedback process is anonymous, as comments may be shared with and used by partners and other stakeholders, and so care should be taken not to include any personally identifiable information (e.g. name, email, phone number, age, address, etc.). While individual responses will not be provided, the LCBO is reading and considering all comments carefully. Answers to commonly asked questions will become available at ocscannabisupdates.com.
Community feedback is important, and the LCBO thanks the public in advance for taking the time to share their comments.
